The suburb of Prahran lies only 5 kms from the central business district of Melbourne and was named in 1837 as an amalgamation from two indigenous words meaning “land partially surrounded by water”. Chapel Street is the main shopping strip and thrives today as a fashion and foodie mecca. Prahran Market has well served the community and whilst the 1960’s built Housing Commission Towers remain, the surrounding streets have gentrified and even the laneways hold secret grape vines. Once the gay centre of Melbourne, Prahran 3181 remains eclectic, multicultural and vibrant.
